Sometimes I type up silly shit that I'd personally consider a sub-par fanwork, but publish it anyway because I KNOW that there are people who likes to read plotless genderswap sillyness or whatever. I know, because I'm one of them. I hold my own writing to higher standards than I do others because I KNOW that I can do better, but sometimes I just can't be arsed to. When I label my fic as "stupid drabble I typed down at 5 am", it's to make it clear that this isn't my best effort.

I just post my mediocre stuff under a sockpuppet account.

Yeah, this, mostly. I have no problem sharing a quick little piece of nothing, because I know some of the people who read my work will still appreciate it. A cheap thrill's still a thrill in my book, and theirs sometimes, and some days you want it easy more than epic.
