But Joffrey doesn't know that he isn't Robert's son. Book!Joffrey firmly believes he is the son of Robert and Cersei.

The reason that Cersei gets rid of the bastards is because she doesn't want everyone seeing all the black haired Baratheon Bastards and then look at Joffrey and be like "HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM".

They are still Robert's, though, and some older than him. Of course being bastards they don't have any claim, but Joffrey's paranoid enough not to care.

the books certainly suggest it is Cersei, but there is also reason to believe it could be Joffrey. And I still don't think it is ever clearly said that it was her. Certainly could be and likely is, but I don't think the show version is completely out there.

It's Cersei in the books. There's no indication that Joffrey was ever concerned like she was.

:shrug: I think it is more likely to be Cersei, but I still don't remember anywhere where it was made clear that it was her.

I don't have the book ATM but looking around on Google all the available sources indicate that it was on Cersei's orders.
