I don't like it either. Like, I get it's a defense mechanism for people with low self esteem but. It shows. It says a lot about the person, and when you just want to look at pictures or fanfic, it's like you can't do it without the creator waving their personal issues in the background and it takes away from the piece itself. I understand the urge to do so (and in response I just don't post any of my art at all haha) but I think it'd be better to just not say it. Or if you must, say you're still improving and looking for critique--a way to acknowledge it without putting yourself down.

Exactly. Just like I don't care if my cashier at Publix is having a fight with her boyfriend (unless it's a cashier I get all the time and sort of know through interactions at the register over a period of time, I don't care about your self esteem issues (unless, of course, you're a writer/artist I read/look at all the time and sort of know through interactions in the comment sections).

Basically, I'm here to read fic. Don't bring your personal problems into unless you are the kind of storyteller who can work out issues in the context of the story. Don't preface with how shit it is because I'm not going to read it. I have a busy life and I don't have time to wade through all the fic in the world, so if you are so kind to tell me it sucks, I take it at face value and don't bother reading.

I worked hard to escape that and I'll be damned if I'm not going to live my life the way I want to--and that includes not giving a shit about your fic if you tell me it's shit.

Here, I'll ease your mind. I'm trained in all manner of weaponry from the simplest of bows to the most badass semi-automatics. I'm right now sitting two feet from a 12 gauge and five feet from a bow capable of taking down a ten point buck. I can certainly handle myself if I make a few offhand insults to the general fandom.

I am just trying to seem cool, but you aren't, listing off all of your weapons and training? Who are you trying to kid? Bottom line: I don't know you. You don't know me. Stop being so "concerned" for my welfare by spouting off ominous sounding death threats, even if you claim you would never but someone else might. You're getting very worked up over fanfic and my perception of it. If it's shit, it's shit. If people are so hung up on praise that they would kill if they don't get it, then they are mental. Not my problem. Come my way with a death threat and make it my problem and I'll save you on your mental health bills by solving all your problems in one blow. End of story.

As for my childhood, I didn't use it for pity. I used it to let you know exactly why people who try to tell me not to speak my mind can go fuck themselves.
