Ugh thirded.

I can accept using it in cases of badly written or shoehorned instances where the protagonist is TRULY making everything about them.

But assuming that all bad things that a male character endures = "manpain"? Fuck off.

Yeah, pretty much this. The line between "pain a man feels" and "a man taking center stage on someone else's tragedy" has pretty much been rubbed out. Which sucks, because it was a useful shorthand for the latter when it still had meaning.

TBH I believe the kind of people who use it for all male character suffering are hardcore rad!SJW types.
