A lot of people say that about the French (and Paris in particular) but I never had a problem. People weren't smiley and warm, but almost everyone I encountered was just fine. I was worried about my poor French skills, but people were usually very patient, it was only a problem once or twice. That's totally on me, of course.

I think it definitey depends on your individual experience. Of course not all of Paris is inhabited by rude people! But as someone above said, it definitely seems to be the rule rather than the exception.

I'm glad you've had positive experiences in Paris (and France), anon. :)

This. I wasn't a fan of Paris for other reasons, but the people weren't outright rude. They were brusque and didn't fake friendliness, but they weren't being assholes for the sake of assholishness.
