I was thinking less of contemporary writers, and more historically.

Perhaps in 250 years time, fanfic will also have have that diversity of voices. At the moment, it's rather repetitive and skewed, and only reflecting current preoccupations, versus published novels, which have so many more years behind them.

I dunno, seems to me that most published novels are also repetitive and skewed toward the themes of the day. Good God the current supernatural romance genre 8|.
That's what makes reading older novels interesting, to me--the themes of 250 years ago are so foreign to us now. So yeah, maybe in 250 years someone will dig up a bunch of fanfic and be like WHAT IS THIS SWEET GOODNESS. It's been known to happen.

but 250 years ago the only people writing books were old white men and the only people they wrote about were old white men therefore anything written before last year is literally trash!!

/ugh I feel gross just typing that, but I have seen this actual justification way too often.
