How'd they find out they like fanfic, though? If you don't try new things (fanfic OR published fic) you won't know if you like them or not.

Some people who aren't really readers get into it because it's connected to something they already enjoy. Some people who enjoy reading only casually discover it and decide that they like it more than reading original work. Other ways too. It all depends on the person and their preference.
