I finally had the time today to talk with my GP about what's going on. I don't want to get into details (I didn't even really go into details details with him about it, just the general plan), so long story short is that I have a prescription. The fun part will be taking it without anyone finding out (psych is 'quack medicine' to the family I live with).

Glad to see you are still with us, anon. Keep on hanging in there. Sounds like your GP is a good doctor, I would stick with him/her. And tell your family they're, IDK, stomach meds? Acne pills? Something innocuous. Maybe even get the pharmacist to dummy up a label for you. Er, based on my assumption (which could be wrong) that your family are fundies of one stripe or another.

Glad you're still around, anon. I hope you continue seeing your doc and taking your meds; try not to get discouraged if they don't help right away or if you need a change of prescription. It might take some time to find something that will work for you, but I'm sure you'll find something sooner or later.

Thanks for checking in with us, Anon. I hope the meds are helpful for you, and that you're able to avoid having your family find out and give you a hard time. Your doctor probably told you this already, but medication can take a few weeks to start having an effect, and sometimes you need to try a few different things to find what works for you. My inbox is still open, if you ever want or need to talk.

Thanks. My biggest problem now is reading all the potential side effects. It's really hard knowing all that can go wrong when you already have a bad habit of imagining worst-case everything and jumping off from there.

If it helps, remember that if a medication has side effects you don't like, you can ask your doctor to switch you to something else. There is almost certainly something that will work for you, whether or not it's what you're on right now.

Yay! Just want to mention - don't get discouraged if the meds don't help right away. Sometimes it takes a little while to find the right medication and dosage. Hang in there!
