Maybe?

I read a lot of fanfic, easily accessible (Not only that it's free and on the internet, but, I can put it down and come back to it), and fluff for my brain right now. I also read a lot of Urban Fantasy (Yes, let's hear those groans).

Thing is, in my past, I've read a metric ton of non-fiction and 'the classics'. Why aren't I reading Shakespeare right now? Because I read it in the sixth grade, the Iliad was covered in 9th grade. I've done my time slogging through books because they were 'classics' and they 'should be read'. Y'know what? They also didn't tickle my fancy. Like a lot of modern art, it's not something that I would seek out to hang on my wall for my own personal enjoyment.

Myself, personally...I'm just glad people are reading. My sister's kid won't read. She says that it's boring, and she'd rather have it fed to her on TV.

Maybe with some of these people it'll go from "I read fanfic" to "I read." Because they were able to find a love for reading in those sloppy Naruto/Sasuke lemon fests.

The comment you're replying to specifically address "people who are bragging that they read tons of fanfic but not published fiction". You clearly don't fit into that category, as you read a wide range of books on a wide range of topics, so you don't disprove the suggestion that people who boast about reading exclusively fanfiction aren't likely to be including the Iliad in their reading even if some people consider it fanfiction.
