My problem with Harry's OotP personality--which is really my problem with the HP series in general--is that it's such a huge tonal shift from the preceding volumes. In the first three or four books, Harry's deprived and malnourished and forced to live in a closet, and his family gifts him things like plastic forks for Christmas. But it's okay, because he's in a modern-day fairy tale mixed with a plucky schoolboy's adventure, and by the conventions of those types of stories, horrific abuse is a minor obstacle and even a bit of a joke, rather than a psychologically scarring situation.

Or, in other words, I don't begrudge Harry his response to trauma; I resent Rowling for changing the rules mid-series.

Changing the rules and poorly executing the new attitude for a kids book. Plus, all caps screaming for paragraphs and pages on end is just exhausting to read.

Thiiiiiiiiis. This is my major issue.
