What if the maker of an image gives permission for others to edit it? Do they make exceptions for that?

My personal corners of tumblr and deviantart for the most part. Very hard on image editers.

That might be an exception.

I can kind of understand deviantart being that way (parts of it, at least). There are a lot of people there who are serious about what they do and who are trying to make names for themselves, and I can see how they would be made uncomfortable by others editing their work.

The kittens are way cute! I'm happy someone puts an effort into image editing though I like minimalist, 80s knocking at the door secrets too.

On my sites editing photos is not looked down upon. And rarely someone links to the sources.

I assume it's because you edit fanart? Which is a shitty thing to do if you don't have permission, yeah. Which is not to say you can't do it if you REALLY want to, as long as you don't post it.

But you could always edit official art, or use stock photos, which are explicitly made so that others use them.
