(Anonymous) 2014-06-28 12:39 am (UTC)(link)Most of the work in background checks [on the company's side] is double checking what's been found in the records and making sure that it's actually legal to hire the person in question since different crimes have different lengths of time before they can be hired into positions that have access to certain types of information.
So they probably do double check if only because they want to be sure of the legalities - and unless you're only going to hire people with names only a handful of people are ever going to have you'll have to check the registries at some point just to be sure or you risk legal trouble that can cost the company tens of thousands of dollars at least.
tl;dr: Companies do follow up on seeing if the information they get back is accurate since not doing so can have some seriously bad legal repercussions for them.

Looks like a lot of work checking the records. My name+surname is one of the most common combinations, so, huh.
In my country criminal records are closed to the public, for better or for worse.
I wonder whether companies check any other information, like college or University records. I know that some forge their records, and I'm not thinking about the Suits series. :)

Once you've held your first job in the field then your college records become far less important than how you preformed on the job.
