Why did titans build the walls and why are titans in the walls? Are the titans in the walls alive? May have to pick up this manga again.

What do you mean by inactive? Are they hibernating or somethong? And how is Ymir sixty when she looks so young? Is it a result of being a titan? And one last question, in what chapter do wer see the titans in the wall?

Ymir used to be a titan (one of the many mindless human-eating kinds that can't shift), and she was in that state for around 60 years, where she had little conciousness or awareness of what was going on. She regained her human form by eating someone who was a titan shifter, and also became a shifter herself.

The inactive thing I (assume) has to do with the lack of sunlight exposure. It was revealed early on that they become lethargic and possibly die when not exposed to the sun for long.
