Honestly, I've heard good things about nu!Roy. What I know is I opened a book and found a page of my favorite character, who never gave up even when strung out and at the end of his rope, begging for suicide-by-supervillian. It left a bad taste and the rest of the book chased me away before I was able to learn more. (Is him standing on Jay's head actually a GOOD thing, btw? I'm assuming Jason isn't fully in control right then, because otherwise Roy's just being an asshole.)
I just really hate that Lian is gone, and there was always a chance for a retcon in the old universe or magiking her back into existence, as screwed up as it would have been to do so. She *was* the reason for Roy taking control over his own life, and it led to some beautiful moments ("you sit in the den and you get sad", "your wings are pretty", "do you want to see my penguins?").
For your little sidenote: The Dick/Roy relationship was one of the most fascinating in comics, thanks to their different ways of dealing with insufferable mentors, their ALWAYS sticking by each other
Dick kicking Roy in the face NEVER happened, ok?!and Roy having the presence of mind to actually build a team just to get Dick back in the game. So, yeah. It was up there in importance. All the Titan lineup was up there.…I kind of like that costume, though.

I haven't read enough DC comics to know what the rest of your comment is about (shame on me), but I agree with that! Actually, I find it pretty hot. Yum.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-29 06:07 am (UTC)(link)That all goes as well as expected. After which the mother of Roy's child, a villain, comes after him to kill him for letting their daughter die. It ends with Roy working for Deathstroke while continuing to use drugs.
It was all very unpleasant. And came as a punch to the gut because after shaky characterization and a pain-ridden canon for decades, Roy was finally having good things happen to him. He'd patched up things with the other Arrows, been accepted into the JL, and was in a generally positive place. While fans figured it wouldn't last forever, we didn't expect it to all crash down and burn quite so fast and hard.
TL;DR: OP has a point of sorts. Roy's canon was completely fucked well before the reboot. But those of us who watched him struggle and persevere against all sorts of threats both mental and to the world are equally angry about the cat thing and the complete erasure of the backstory that made us love him in the first place.
