Reducing the profit of the companies, making it so that they can't pay their workers? There's definitely a disparity between what execs get paid v what actual creators do, but the solution isn't to steal everything.

We are discussing poor people here. People who won't (can't) buy it even if they don't download it.

Someone who can pay but choses not to is not the same than someone who doesn't pay because they can't afford it.

How are they reducing the profit? They are not increasing it, but that's not the same thing.

Well, in anime/manga's case, series get legal free options (ie streams) people used to the illegal methods often aren't aware of the legal options which loses money.

Especially manga-wise.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-28 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The topic was "people who pirate because they are poor".

(Anonymous) 2014-06-28 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Welp.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-28 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
If those people couldn't pirate, they wouldn't buy it, they'd go without.

So those companies/creators aren't actually losing anything.

...I'm not sure why the company or the original writers should be sad that they're going without. I'm not even sure why you seem to think I'd be sad to hear that they're going without entertainment.

Frankly, this is a poor argument as to why it's okay.

They didn't say anything about anyone being sad. They said people who pirate are not potential sources of revenue.

I call bullshit on that. They might not buy as much, but I seriously doubt most piraters could never afford any of it. Especially the ones who whine about how they pirate online. Like, so you're a college student without an income, and you download twenty movies and three TV series a month, maybe you can't afford all that, but you probably could afford to buy yourself a movie every once in awhile, or pay to rent it.
