What you seem to get is that the anti-piracy people aren't overly concerned with whether you or anyone else has free entertainment. They worked to produce that thing and they want to be paid for their work. Or do you not expect to be paid for your work?

You make it sound like everyone in this thread who's against piracy is in the entertainment industry.

Or maybe it's all you and you're working there?

I'm a proponent of people getting paid for their work. If that offends you, perhaps you should try living without money.

Not everyone gets paid for every single thing they work on. I'm an engineer, and although my plans are my intellectual property and every design is mine, literally anyone can have a copy made if they contact the district office and get the digital file. We make not a single dime off of individual copies or the digital files, and most people who make entertainment are also not paid that way. Pirating a movie does not generally prevent the actors, directors, writers, or other active departments from getting paid. Except in rare cases, they've already been paid: it's just profit for the studio at that point.

Thank you for this wonderful parallel that actually explains it. I'm a software developer - I get paid at the end of the month, but I sure as heck don't own the IP I'm creating. That ... really doesn't bug me.

That's funny because I do work in the entertainment industry and yes it does offend me when you deliberately sound like you're speaking for me and others :)
