The key word there is 'taken.' Nothing is being taken with piracy, it's being copied. Big difference. The owner still possesses his property and the pirate now also possesses one.

Have you truly never heard of intellectual property?

Or are you also okay with plagiarism, since that's also "copying" rather than "taking"?

What does intellectual property have to do with the stealing =/= copying discussion? Oh wait, nothing.

... Baby, this is fandom. Violation of intellectual copyright is the order of the day. (See: All fanfic, fanart and roleplaying.)

This. What a bullshit argument.

Nothing "physical" is being taken, but I don't see why this is such a big difference. It's still an item, tangible or not, that costs money, that some people feel they deserve not to pay for.

You do understand that 'copyright infringement' is not a synonym for 'theft'?

While you can easily infringe on a person's intellectual property, the only way to actually steal it in any form would be to somehow fraudulently transfer the intellectual property rights to yourself. Then the intellectual property would actually be stolen, because the creator no longer possesses it.

Otherwise... nothing is actually taken.
