(Anonymous) 2014-06-29 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)I also always thought the book supported the Prime Directive. It's about how it wouldn't always work perfectly and it's important to adapt when mistakes happen, but that it's still the best option... the book's definitely not saying it's "bullshit."

I do think the book was pro-Prime Directive, but I took the secret to mean that OP disagreed with the thesis of the book & thought that the visitors should have interfered more? Or that they were mad the couple didn't get together?
I don't remember the book that well -- though I do remember making up fanfic in my head (I didn't know about writing fic, then, I was about 11...) where they figured out how to be together.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-29 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)And yeah, the book's pro-Prime Directive. I've read stuff before that's anti-Prime Directive (most obviously Speaker for the Dead), but I needed to read something that was really for it before I realized how much I disagreed with it.
