Pfft, it always makes me laugh when someone claims that most people care more about animal death and suffering than other humans. If that were true then most of the world would be vegan. Even the "cute" animals, that people are more likely to care about, still die needlessly by the thousands every year without most people every really thinking much about it.

Someone getting weepy about an animal death in a movie, when they don't give a shit about a human dying, means nothing about how they value animal or human life in real life. If you think otherwise then you really need to sit down and watch "Earthlings" or some other such documentary.

People get an emotional response, but that's it.
They wouldn't ask for drugs to be tested in their own bodies to protect animals, and god knows they wouldn't stop eating hot dogs. That's still a source of mockery and misunderstanding, so people care a lot more about humans (and btw, I'm not saying I don't undertand it).
