Is the assumption in fandom that because Lin has the same last name as Toph, then she must have been raised without a father? Why couldn't Lin's parents have decided she should take her mother's name? (Or Lin decided herself as an adult).

No I don't think that's. Only the rich characters even seem to have last names.

I'm just for single mom Toph because we have no clue who Lin's father could be and them introducing anyone new for Toph at this point would just be strange to me. Leave it forever a mystery.
