Re: Shows you stopped watching because they went to crap!

Well, good thing I decided not to continue with it through the books then. I was hearing this a lot from people but one of my close friends was telling me otherwise.
I just mostly don't like anything that involves too much gruesome killing and backstabbing/dark plots, it depresses me and puts me off most of the time. Also the useless sex scenes/rape and the forced incest bothered me a lot, so I just gave it all up.

...Definitely don't try the books then. If the show seems bad for wanton rape and gore, the books are basically that times a hundred. It's a stylistic decision that I think sort of stems back to the fact that GRRM started writing aSoIaF in the 90's when most pulp fantasy was squeaky clean and quite idyllic, and not really at all what a real medieval society would have looked like.

But yes, it's pretty excessive and not as realistic as he thinks he's being about it. Definitely a product of its time, and the show actually tones that down a whole lot. I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to watch it if that sort of thing puts them off; it certainly doesn't get any better from here on out.

Thank you for clearing that out (more) to me. I seem to hear/read a lot about GRRM's work lately that, with each time I get new information about him or his books, I feel like stepping a hundred feet away from anything he has done or might even do.
