I've never done it myself but the bus/LYNX routes seem to be fairly straightforward according to Tripadvisor. Granted, they're talking about the opposite direction, but in principle it should work out the same. Should take about an hour and a half with buses going every 20-30 minutes (plus some walking on the Universal end), or you could pay to take a taxi and that will take about 20 minutes but will be more expensive.

Holy christ is the LYNX trip planner bad, but if you google maps a route between Universal Bus Loop Loop and Downtown Disney in Orlando it brings up the correct option.

Downtown Disney isn't near the Disney parks. It's basically a bunch of shops, restaurants, clubs, etc. The parks are set back on Disney property.

I think the shuttle idea may be the best option.

See, I haven't been to Disneyworld since I was like 7 so I had no idea that downtown Disney wasn't where you get off the bus for the Disney parks. That was on the correct hypothetical bus route, though, I just couldn't get the route to make any kind of sense with literally any other stop.

And yeah, if you have the money, the shuttle is the way to go. Buses are by far the cheapest option, though, so if money is a concern that's an option.
