I have a violent hatred for "incredibly dangerous minority of people with superpowers as a metaphor for real-life minorities". No, the bloodthirsty vampire or the Omega-level mutant who goes around putting lives in danger on a daily basis is not comparable to Joe and his boyfriend minding their business down the street. It's stupid and I hate it and whine whine whine.

+1

That's my problem with the X-Men = gay people allegory. It's a little hard to put it in perspective, because I'm pretty sure gay people aren't going around blowing up cop cars or destroying bridges or sucking the life out of people they touch. I mean, not on the regular.

That's why I tend to read it as "mental illness stand in" instead of gay stand in.

Of course, that could be because I've had more than enough gay stand ins for my lesbian self and would like to see some for mental illness.
