Yeah... my real thoughts on it is that Kíli teases and needles at the Elf, she acts superior, they end up talking in a semi-friendly manner... while he's stuck in a damn prison cell, so maybe he has ulterior motives for being nice to her. Then he gets sick and while in a delirious state where he can see into the spirit world a little he sees that her soul is a bit shiny. When he comes out of the delirium? He doesn't think what he saw was even her. In fact I think Tauriel feels more about Kíli than he feels about her, what with her going against Legolas' orders and running off to try and heal him of his poisoned wound.

A friend told me there was reason to ignore their "romance" and there's plenty.
