This entire secret has just made me realise that for years I have thought that Jeff Bridges and Jeff Daniels were the same person.

I now know they are not.

NO WONDER he was stuck in Not Doing Anything mode. He set himself up as a pretty god, was deposed, and then had like a thousand years to beat himself over the head for his own hubris. Honestly, they never settled whether the programs could be considered sapient, and it's still SUPER CREEPY which ever side of that line you come down on.

It also totally made sense to me why he seemed so foggy and distant at first when he saw Sam. He was still adjusting to the first new thing he'd seen in ages, and he didn't really know what to say or do at first!
