Do you ever rewatch depressing episodes/movies to make yourself sad on purpose?

Oh hell no. I can't deal with sad endings in any story.

Sometimes I listen to depressing music for that purpose. It's hella cathartic.

Kind of. I do that a lot when I'm already sad and want a catalyst to make myself sadder so I can cry it out.

Exactly. Well said.

If I'm in a depressive mood and feel like I need a good cry to get all those emotions out, I'll go watch/read/play/listen to something that I know will make me sad and it'll be super cathartic. (In the Flesh was great for this, even though there's some happiness as well.)

I watch tearjerker eps/scenes of certain shows when I need a good cry. It's cathartic.

Oh yes. I have a playlist of sad stuff on YouTube. I love doing that.

Sometimes, just to see if they would be as poignant the second time through.

Usually not. Media rarely makes me get emotional, and then if it does I can't really muster up the same response a second time around.

Yes, but I have two categories -- those sad episodes that I will never watch again to preserve the power of the first viewing in my memory, and those ones that I watch over and over to just drink in and revel in the pain.

No, but I sometimes watch sad things to make me feel better/motivate myself though, even though that sounds weird. But not specifically to be sad.

Yup. I usually just watch the last scene (and the accompanying sad-as-fuck outro song), so I can get nice and weepy. Cowboy Bebop's ending is great for that.

Why did you mention that...

What do you even mean, that star clearly belonged to Vicious.

The creepy vulture I feel more sorry for than Vicious. New headcanon here we come.

No. I'm a damn "making myself sad" black belt; I don't need media assistance.

If I'm already sad and want to cry, then yeah.

Yes. BTVS' episode "The Body" when I need an emotional purging. Particularly the anniversary month of my mother's death... that ep rings really true for me. When I need it, it's my safety valve, sort of a YANA hour.

I'm the same way with the episode "Forever". I know part of the reason "The Body" was so sad was because her mother's death was portrayed in a realistic manner and had nothing to do with the supernatural, but the interactions between Buffy and Dawn in "Forever" hit so close to home that it hurt. It guts me every time when Buffy, after arguing with Dawn about how wrong it is to try to bring their mother back with magic, can't help but be filled with desperate hope when they both think their mother is at the door because even if she doesn't think she'll come back quite right it's still better than nothing at all.

AYRT

I can see your point but I think that I shy away from that ep because I had such a strong reaction to Pet Semetary (sic). The ep you're referencing made me nope out that night and skip reruns. Cannot handle the possinility of bringing someone back "wrong"...

At my age, that admission makes me feel hugely embarrassed.
