it wasn't terrible but it wasn't great.

I would say that it was perfectly adequate. It was pleasant enough to listen to, but her part was obviously tailored to not exceed her ability.

She actually sang. It was Aly who basically had one or two sung lines the whole episode.

And if I recall, when Joss realized how good Amber Benson could sing, he actually expanded her singing role in the episode beyond what she was originally going to do.
