I was having a discussion with a coworker, and now I'm curious - for those of you who live away from your parents, how often do you speak to them (on the phone/skype/etc)? He says he calls his mom every week, while I'd talk to my mother every 2-3 weeks, and we both think that our behavior is the norm. Am I just lazy, or what?

Nah I email them every couple of weeks, usually because they email me. But we've never been especially close.

We don't talk on the phone a lot but we usually text every other day or so and I visit at least twice a month. I don't think your situation is abnormal though; different things work for different people

When I lived away, I would call on what would probably average out to once a week (ie, not at all one week but twice some other week).

My middle sister calls around 2-3 times a week with baby-related news mostly. And then then my oldest sister pretty much never calls. Like, once a month. Usually our mom has to call her to find out anything.

I talk to them a little more than once a week on average, probably.

But almost never on the phone. That's what makes me feel weird. We never talk on the phone, we text or email.

When I lived away from my parents, I called my mom at least every day. It was more of a "hey I'm up, what's new in the world?" sort of like my morning cup of coffee thing. But I'd only talk to my dad maybe once a month, so it evens out I suppose.

Now that I'm back home with them, I obviously talk to them every day.

A few times a week. I live only a couple of miles from my parents, so I see them quite often.

Just about every day. They're my closest neighbors, so it isn't that difficult. Most of the time if I need to talk to them about something I just walk over to their house.

Once every 2-3 months over the phone, maybe? I don't reach out to them, and they don't reach out to me.

I seem posts on Facebook and Twitter and i assume they see mine.

My parents must fucking hate me.

In person once a week at least. My mom will text me maybe two or three times a week though. Usually we meet for coffee or go to a movie or get dinner together or I go to her place. I love my mom. :)

Maybe once a month. My parents are busy retired folk. They're always travelling.

I rarely talk to my Dad when I call or my Mom calls. We don't have much to say to each other.

About once a week maybe?

I have never gone a day without talking to my mom in some format-- sometimes only in a "hi, can't talk, love ya" text message, but usually a lot longer than that. Even when I was living overseas we would instant message every day and talk on the phone once or twice a month. (Skype wasn't really a thing back then.)

Such a dork for saying this, but I'd consider my parents two of my closest friends. I see them at least once a week. And for phone calls, probably once or twice a week. :)

They're pretty funny and rad.

(But I also know that my relationship with my parents is not the norm...)

I love my parents and they love me but we have pretty much nothing in common and we struggle to get on well.

Not as often as I should. It's like, ever since I moved out 2 years ago, my time with my mom went out the window. Mostly cause I'm lazy. :C I may go visit her Saturday or Sunday. And see the cats~
