What's for dinner, FS?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'm about to toss a frozen turkey burger on the grill (indoor baby George Foreman), which I may or may not eat on a multigrain slim with spinach, mustard and ketchup. Also I've got this bag of quinoa/brown rice/garlic stuff that's supposed to be a good side and was on manager's special at the store, so I picked a few up.

I have some asparagus that's getting kind of wilty in my fridge, but I don't really feel like doing anything with it. IDK, maybe I can make a few spears cut super short fit on the grill with the turkey burger.

Braised pork ribs in some kind of bbq sauce/glaze, I think. And mixed green salad.

or steam the asparagus, cut it up and toss into the Quinoa/Brownrice/garlic stuff?

I am making slow-cooker Santa Fe chicken, which is ridicuslously easy to put together. Beans, corn, diced tomatoes, chicken broth, some spices, some chopped onions and scallions. Throw a few thawed chicken breasts on top, slow cook, then shred the chicken and return to the cooker to soak up the spicy juices. Great over rice, freezes and reheats well.

Asparagus in the side dish sounds good, but it's one of those "stick the whole bag in the microwave and forget about it" things. I could probably wash up a skillet right fast and toss some asparagus chunks in there. It's just getting up the motivation to do anything that holds me back.

oh, the steam in the micro is good .. and easier than the frying thing, I'd think?

So, I ended up putting the asparagus on a plate in the microwave with the bag of ricey quinoa. I wish I'd seasoned it a little, and the heads got kind of crunchy, but otherwise it was okay.

I forgot to feed myself again until it was quite late, and then had some yogurt and that'll just have to do till dawn.

Turkey burger sounds pretty nice.

Chicken and dumplings, from absolute scratch. (Well, I bought the broth. But aside from that.) I woke up this morning with a need to do something complicated.

I know that need. Usually mine results in baked goods or lasagne, though.

Yeah, it's usually baking for me, too, but Wednesdays it's my job to cook for the entire family, so that's where it's getting channeled today.

Sounds really good. My sister, brother-in-law, and niece are coming down for the 4th of July so there's sure to be some complicated family cooking to come. We'll definitely be making one of these though.

Oh God, those giraffe measuring spoons(?) are ridiculously adorable.

Augh, the butcher's counter was swamped and I was feeling shy, so I ended up buying a whole chicken and disassembling it myself. And remembering why I don't do that. But it's all good now, and everything is simmering and making the whole house smell like happiness.

Peanut butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips on half a banana.

Trying to be good on this restriction diet, and not eat anything I'm not 100% sure won't hurt me, because I have plans for tomorrow night, and I had something that I didn't THINK would cause problems a couple days ago and am still recovering. So as much as I really, really wanted to make something with the all-corn tortillas I just got, maybe a faux pizza with some cocktail sauce and parmesan... now is not the time for experimentation. :/

I miss bread so much. And garlic. ;_;

Stirfried fresh noodles with beef balls, carrots, Korean radish, onion, celery, mushrooms in a ginger garlic sweet chili sauce. Baby bok choy on the side, and a peach cider.

Later, probably some fresh cherries (picked them myself this morning) and/or cherry ice cream.

I haven't decided yet, but it'll be restaurant food because I don't have hardly anything in my pantry. Gotta hit up the grocery store soon, I don't like feeling like I'm out of options.

I had a bowl of Trix that I bought because I forgot it tastes like vaguely fruity soap.
