As a relative Korra newbie who only watched it because I heard S3 was unexpectedly halfway decent, I'd be happy to engage in some gratuitous bashing of the first two seasons.

I actually like S2 when it just focued on Korra or the airfamily, and until last week I hadn't heard a lot of dissent. It's easy enough to skip the rest of the 'Krew' parts.

And you've got to see the origins of the first Avatar.

Just chiming in I liked S2 very much (and was meh about season 1), so maybe there's hope?

It's only a few eps in and in my experience epic facepalm-worthy Korra fail tends to occur at the end of a series, so you never know. But I like the premise: that airbending is back, but the new airbenders aren't a bunch of stepford saints who all suddenly want to live lives of peace on some mountain. I'm hoping - perhaps naively - for a bit more realism than we usually get in AtLA/LOK.

Ooh, I'm glad to hear that about S3. Haven't really kept up with stuff since I wasn't exactly impressed by S1 and S2, but now I'm sort of prompted/reminded/inspired/[insert word that means all three of those here] to watch it again.
