I don't object to him trying something new, but I do object to him doing so badly. Does Abrams storyboard anything except the FX shots? Because his movies in general, and the Trek ones in particular, are shot through with continuity problems. Not to mention failure to think through implications. I like FX action shots as much as the next girl, but a movie should be more than just a loose collection of of FX shots and barely sketched out linking scenes. Oh, and Chris Pine can only seem to play "douchebag", but that probably is less an Abrams problem and more a Chris Pine problem.
