Yes! Felicity/Diggle! I could so get into that. And I thought Felicity had great chemistry with Barry.

I just don't get Felicity/Oliver, so the fact that it's THE biggest ship and practically defines the fandom is kinda annoying. Especially when it bleeds into the show like that ridiculously pandering fake love confession in the season 2 finale. Give me a break.

I watched Arrow last week while I was house sitting alone and I definitely cried at some Laurel scenes with her dad with only the dogs and cats I was taking care of as witness to my ridiculousness.

It's very interesting how anything Olicity related on the show is always "pandering" to the Laurel fans. And I don't even ship Olicity, so I am not making that observation from a shipper viewpoint.

Yeah, I'm sure the fact that the fandom is almost completely made up of Felicity/Oliver shippers had nothing to do with a scene where Oliver confessed his love to Felicity (except it wasn't real, so it will have zero impact moving forward). It's a way for the show to cater to those shippers without having to commit to any kind of relationship. Shippers can squeal over that scene and say "omg Oliver says it was all part of the ruse, but he really meant it!" and love it. But it won't have any impact on the show. It was a zero consequence way to give shippers what they want.

I checked out Arrow's AO3 page the other day in the interest of looking for Laurel fics and I laughed when I saw that the most popular ship is Felicity/Oliver and has 1,740 fics. The second most popular ship is Roy/Thea and it has 87 fics.

LIKE. If that doesn't tell you that the fandom is oriented around Felicity/Oliver then idk what to say.

Anyway, I'm not saying ANYTHING Olicity related is pandering. I just said that that particular scene was. And it was ridiculous.

Never said the fandom isn't mostly Olicity - it is. But first, I hate the term "pandering". Two, there are quotes from Marc Guggenheim from October that seem to indicate they always planned for the season to end with that, so it wasn't so much "pandering" as it was "gotcha". They were more interested in the fakeout. Third, if I HAD been an Olicity shipper, I would have been hugely pissed, and indeed not a few of them were. Not all of course, maybe not even most. But quotes from the EPs going into the finale indicate they knew they were running a risk of alienating fans with the fake out - again not exactly what you might call "pandering". In this case however, they seemed to be willing to run the risk of outraging their primary fanbase in order to have the "gotcha" moment (and also possibly to distract people from the "oh and btw Laurel will be Black Canary next season" moment). Let me be clear. I didn't care for it. I don't like the way the writers are playing games here. But I do not think it was "pandering".

I can't speak as to what any of the EPs said or what their intent was. Like I said, I only watched the show a week ago, so I had no idea about any of that context. So completely removed from that context, the fake love confession felt... I don't even know how to explain it. It felt cheap and like it was trying to throw Olicity fans a bone.

Ugh, I feel exactly the same way. The love confession thing made me roll my eyes. Felicity and Barry are adorably nerdy together though and I ship it even though I'm conflicted about it because Barry/Iris has always been one of my favorite couples ever.

I love father-daughter relationships in media and I was pleasantly surprised at how much attention Laurel and Quentin's relationship gets on the show. I'm glad that gave Laurel more of a storyline and personality than just being Oliver's "will-they-or-won't-they" love interest (speaking of which, I think Laurel and Oliver have almost zero romantic chemistry but whatever). When Laurel and Quentin got kidnapped by the dollmaker and Quentin genuinely thought he was going to watch her die, it killed me a little bit.

I watched The Flash pilot and I loved Barry/Iris. (lol watching The Flash pilot is why I actually decided to finally watch Arrow.)

BUT I ALSO LIKED FELICITY/OLIVER.

I AM SO CONFLICTED RN.

I think Oliver and Laurel can be sweet sometimes, but I'm more interested in Laurel herself and her relationship with her family members.

I agree. I think they have some lovely moments together (like when Oliver reaches out to her when she's going through a hard time and says that he wants them to be a part of each other's lives because he needs her as a friend) but whenever they bring up the romance aspect of their relationship it just feels forced to me for some reason. The relationship between her and her family is one of the best parts of the show to me and I really hope we see more scenes between her and Sara next season

lol oops.

This: BUT I ALSO LIKED FELICITY/OLIVER.

Should be BUT I ALSO LIKED FELICITY/BARRY.

That's what I get for fandom secrets-ing while painting my nails and watching netflix.
