TBH that's my biggest problem with STID - I don't think it does stand up as a science fiction adventure movie, like ST09 does. I'm basically willing to take a fun action adventure movie that hits the right Star Trek character notes and comes to a satisfying ending. I would accept that. I don't think STID does any of those things.

I haven't seen TLA though so I can't really compare the two.
