Re: Things you thought you would hate, but didn't

I think part of what made me dislike it a little bit more was the fact that it was released around the same time that Lord of the Rings was and everyone I knew back then was more into HP and I felt like "...b-but, guys...lotr..." because I love LOTR to no end and I thought HP kinda got in the way. (hey I was young and stupid, okay..)

But I agree with you on not having a favorite character to love and rather admiring the creativity of the whole mash-up between normal people's and wizards' lives that makes it seem so realistically captivating that you end up getting fascinated by that instead of the characteristics of the people there (which are good too, btw, not saying they're not).

It's definitely good to get past the hate and understand what everyone sees in it and even join the fandom because it's so goddamn big and has a lot of goods, yess.

I was always into LOTR too, and while I had friends who liked it everyone was so passionate about HP back then that it was impossible to get away from. It def didn't overshadow the LOTR stuff for me just because I made a concentrated effort to stay away from HP, but I do get what you're saying. HP at its most popular was unlike anything else I've ever seen.

Yup! Some of the characters are quite good, but the setting is the star of HP, at least for me.

Right? The fandom is massive to the point of not even knowing where to begin. When I first read the books I read a bit of fic, but it was overwhelming. Better to have too much fic than not enough though, right?
