I do agree that if you're able to appreciate the film for what it is, well, that's only a good thing, IMO. Personally, however, I do think there's a difference between the previous movies and the reboot movies, though, because the previous movies took place in the same universe as the rest of Trek, so even if they didn't showcase a lot of the ideas of the series, for fans at least, it was still kind of implied (well, mostly. *cough* Nemesis *cough*). But I think there's a bigger burden on the reboot to show those things, because it's an alternate timeline.
