Oh, look, it's someone with lousy taste in men AND women.

Going back to OP's post, I don't see how this negates Ivanova/Talia at all. Marcus had a totally unrequited crush on Ivanonva, there is nothing to suggest they were trying to erase her love for Talia.

Yeah, I bought that Ivanova loved Talia, or was falling in love with her before the thing that didn't really happen, but never the sense that it was mutual with Marcus. "All love is unrequited," etc."

And neither ended happily, which from a meta/representation perspective, would have been more problematic.
