The lack of expressions is my number one issue. It's Usagi, she's the QUEEN of emoting. It feels like they are so concerned about keeping her pretty that they won't let her go beyond an ":O" face. And people using the manga to excuse this need to re-read it. For all its faults, the art was very expressive. Same with the noodle bodies. You can do noodle people without it looking weird (Utena). These character designs reminds me of Blood C. I'm not the manga's biggest fan so I'm fully aware I'm not 100% objective about this. But this was a great chance to be more faithful to the manga and make it spectacular. Instead we get this and it looks so... half assed.

The animation looks cheap, Usagi looks old and the music is nothing to write home about. Can't really talk about the VA since I fully admit nothing will be as good as the latino dub in my mind, though Usagi's VA sounds a little strained?

I did like the backgrounds and the cute Sailor V game, though.

The VA probably sounds strained because she's a lot older by now, iirc (I think it was mid-forties or something). It's probably easier for her to go back to the Eva reboots and reprise Mistao vs. being Usagi again.

Yeah, she's in her late 40s now, right? I missed the VA casting drama, I guess people really wanted her to come back?

Yeah, I think she's the only one of the original voice cast to come back (there are some anime old-timers among the actual animation/production crew). It's probably based on a reasoning that no one could take her place, but I hope it doesn't throw her voice out. A lot of older VAs do young parts, but it probably takes a ton of practice.

I didn't realize she was the same VA as Misato (I never learned either of their VA's names, so that would be why lol), but NOW I CAN'T UNHEAR MISATO.

You've basically summed up all my complaints about it. Usagi is supposed to be goofy and full if life, yet there's none of that present here. No goofy faces, no vitality or anything. She's just a pretty doll. And agreed! Naoko's art was very expressive! We got none of that here.

The music is just so bland. Some of the background music I like, but the op and ending are just dull. I mean, Moonlight Densetsu worked as an opening and as a sad, heartbreaking slow melody in the first anime. Moon Pride just sounds forgettable.


I want that Sailor V game.

I'm willing to give the background music some time, maybe it'll get better. The opening is just ok. The ending is pretty, though!

I'm willing to do the same. I just hope they get something poignant and heartbreaking to play during the last battle of this arc.

It needs to be made.
