SA: I never saw the first anime, but I think I can see why people are saying the faces are too emotionless. The eyebrows are too narrow compared to the size of the eyes, and often too close to the eyes too - I keep mistaking them for the crease above the eye instead of an eyebrow. Since a lot of emotion, particularly in animation, is in the eyebrow movements that is making them seem very emotionless.

Also, the iris is almost constantly fully visible as an "O" with white around it. Other anime usually have the iris cut off by the upper lid and/or lower lid unless their eyes are wide in shock or surprise or reacting to something. While you do see more white when they're reacting it isn't as noticeable as other animation styles so the expressions are tending to look the same.

The pez dispenser mouths are also kinda weird. Even when shouting their open mouths are just sort of narrow and vertical instead of opening sideways.

SA: The CGI wasn't that bad, though I'm confused why the last part of her outfit to form was the skirt....

Overall the episode was ok. Not bad, far from great, but ok.
