There were a few little differences story-wise between Crystal and the original (things like Mamoru's first outfit and the fact that Usagi hadn't heard about Sailor V). This suggests that Crystal will be following the manga closer than the original did and so the differences are going to become a lot more evident as things progress. The original's first episode though was pretty faithful to the source material, so it makes sense that the new one would be more or less the same thing (just as the first episode of the live action is pretty much the same initial story as well ... that's just how the series begins).
