Me too! The only good thing about Man of Steel was the male eye candy. I don't want Superman v Batman. I want to watch "Unshaven Henry Cavill Takes His Shirt Off". That would be a fantastic film.

I think they need to stop with Gundam and find a new way to do giant robots.

LOL anyone who thinks there's ANYTHING profound about the 2013 Superman deserves to have their hopes and dreams stomped on.

It's called Aldnoah Zero, and it's from the same director and "original creator" (whatever that means) as Fate Zero. It's about a war between Earth and Martian colonists.

I am sure that I used to watch an anime like that around 2004...

Now it makes sense that I found the first ep. quite dull. Fate Zero has its hardcore fans but story-wise it's also more lol fantastical romp than profound.

there's nothing wrong with goals.
the first episode was pretty good, and the ost was amazing. other projects urobuchi has worked on have been well-received for a huge part (madoka, fate/zero, psycho pass, among others) and if anything this will probably be a hype train.

Supersede Gundam? Talk about counting your chickens...

My thoughts exactly. People have been trying that for years and it hasn't happened yet.

Even the people who make Gundam fail at superseding Gundam.

That's what I thought. Aim high and even if you fall short, you still have something pretty impressive.

Hoy about "We're going to produce a good and interesting show" instead of "we're going to supersede the most popular mecha franchise ever"?

The first episode actually wasn't bad, and I had some reservations because I don't like Urobuchi. Here's hoping the characters will be engaging.

If you're going to compare yourself to Man of Steel, you might as well make the extra leap and just say you're making a grittier version of DBZ. At least that would make it sound like it might be fun and memorable.

Dumb comments, but I gotta admit, the first episode was the best anime pilot of the summer so far (and I think Zankyou no Terror is the only show that may have a chance to surpass it). And I hope it maintains that level of quality throughout the entire series, because I've been thirsting for good mecha recently. It's been sparse.

Gundam hasn't had a non-UC (as in non-Gundam Unicorn) megahit for years. Even 00 really wasn't as popular as hoped. It wouldn't be that difficult to surpass current Gundam. I have hopes for Reconguista though...
