Musketeers is British. The Last Ship is actually ok.

What about Suits? Awesome show. Major Crimes. Rizzoli and Isles. Perception. Covert Affairs. Defiance.

There are a lot of good summer American shows.

The Last Ship is actually ok

Did it get markedly better after the pilot, or something? Because I only watched that, and it was one of the worst episodes of television I've ever seen.

I liked the pilot a lot more than I thought I would. I didn't say it was great tv, but I find it to be ok and entertaining summer fare.

I just couldn't find any redeemable qualities at all. The action was hokey to the point of terribad, the protagonist might just be one of the worst characters I've ever seen on screen, they aren't even fucking trying with the science and/or military shit - usually you'd try with one, you know? - the writing was primary school caliber, and they topped it all off with the cherry of killing the goddamned black guy first. Seriously.

I always mean to ask when I see you around here, but never do... what's your username inspired by?

Ariakas is tone of the villains of the Dragonlance Chronicles. Sadly, he only gets like two pages in before he's killed by the protagonists at the end, but I always thought he had the coolest name.

Thank you, now I remember why the name sounds familiar! Those books used to be a guilty pleasure of mine ...

I think OP mentions the new shows, though I don't know all of them. The Ship was very strange (keeping viruses in the snow, wtf) and they spend wavy too much money on it. Imo, of course.

I dropped Suits (not that it was horrible, I just wasn't really feeling it anymore) and still have to catch up with Covert Affiars, but yay, someone else likes Covert Affairs! Defiance is cool, too.

Defiance is cool, too.

Indeed it is. Second season is turning out to be even better than the first.

I think I've only seen the first two episodes of season two, but so far I agree; I think Defiance is improving with every episode. Not that it didn't start out good, but they seem to have hit their stride now and it's more engaging.

It's definitely engaging, both with the world-building, which has gotten better, and with the tension of the plot.
