A.S. Byatt's Possession - I mean, while the book is theoretically about academia, there's even fandomish aspects to it. And man, the fic potential. Of course, A.S. Byatt would probably scoff it, so that takes away the appeal.

Oh, cool!

I'll admit it took me a while to get into Possession, but once I did I loved it. (Though I never cared about Roland as much as I thought I was supposed to...)
