Yeah, this. At most, it could be considered a lifestyle choice, given some people are pretty serious about some aspects of it. Which is fine, that's their choice/prerogative, and I don't think much of it. I do think a good portion of how it became widely known as a fandom is probably due to the furry lifestylers who made the whole furry thing their entire lives. No more different than a sports fan that's dedicated to their team and whatnots, but the furries from the 2004-2008 time period were... something else. Anyone remember 'Fursecution'?

Side note: A lot of my favorite characters are what one could consider to be 'furry' (even ones who are aliens, but look like anthros), I have a couple personal characters who are 'funny animals', and I enjoy cartoons and games with anthro characters, but I don't consider myself a "furry" or part of the furry subculture.
