I think they just mean the A:TLA fandom has seen all the big players: character bashing, rape is love, ship wars, fridging, etc. Which is probably true, but I don't know what makes this fandom different from any of the other big ones.

Harry Potter is good too, but I think ATLA has an even wider and more accessible variety of wank. Harry Potter is fairly concentrated on a couple locations and a few categories of characters. Whereas almost every fandom wank topic has an ATLA example so that a similar fandom wank in a different fandoms can be measured against.

We have "Mai is an evil gold digging bitch" for character bashing, and for the Draco in leather pants, we have "Azula just needs love/better friends/is misunderstood! and there are plenty of fans in certain segments who think they know better than canon. The more obnoxious Zutarans and Tokka shippers, for example, not to mention the Azula stans. I say this as an old Harry Potter fan, A:tLA has an example of every batshit you could wish for. On the other hand, A:tLA fandom doesn't even come close to the wonderfully bizarre stuff Harry Potter fadnom could come up with.
