Hey folks. I'm currently alone in NYC at the end of a research trip! Right now I'm at MoMA about to watch a free film noir, but I have no idea what to do after it ends at 830. What can a person stuck with a heavy backpack do alone late night in New York on the cheap?

Go second-acting, tbh.

Go see a comedy show. There are quite a few free ones. Hit google. NYC has one of the best comedy scenes on the planet.

If you like people watching, definitely ride the subway, to me, there's nothing more entertaining than watching the subway riders.

Have you seen Times Square ever? It's impressive at night. Uh what else are you interested in? I can try and think of other things. I usually go in with a gameplan.

I'm not sure what time the High Line park closes, but that's a really neat place over on 10th Avenue by 30th St.

Midtown and Lower Manhattan (from 42nd street on down) is the only part of the city I can think of that has a late-night scene that doesn't involve risk getting oneself arrested (or needing to get someone else arrested). Check out the malls, restaurants, diners, bars, and movie theaters. Just stay where it's bright, along the main thoroughfares, and you're bound to find something. (I feel like a bad local, not having better tourist ideas than that, but I live in the less savory parts of the city where all the 24 hour spots have a lot of weirdos.)
