Why don't you just cut it the fuck out you homophobic asswipe.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-11 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, cut it out with your facts. Feels are the truth, amirite?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you managed to figure out how to reply to yourself.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-11 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Why don't you just support actual gay/bi characters instead of only caring about gays when you want to slash a hot guy?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Because actual gay/bi characters aren't pretty white men.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Because actual gay/bi characters tend to be made entirely of stereotypes unless you're watching a show/movie that exists only to have gay characters, and Queer as Folk isn't for everyone. Some people want gay characters in their other genres, and Supernatural--to my knowledge--has one lesbian character who shows up occasionally, and then had a pair of gay guys in one episode as comedic relief. Far different from a main gay character.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
And the macho-Americana right-wing fantasy that Supernatural is, is where you expect to find this non-stereotypical main gay character?

Good luck with that.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, I expect nothing. I don't personally watch Supernatural anymore, but criticizing slash because "you should focus on the existing gay characters" when there are no gay characters to speak of? Is stupid.

But if you want a better example than right-wing Supernatural, Teen Wolf has a gay side character who shows up periodically. Every time he shows up, it's to highlight the fact that he's gay--dancing in a gay club, checking out one of the main characters, exercising technical know how (while saying that XY character isn't his type), flirting with some dude, complaining about an ex, etc. Three seasons and we know almost nothing about him, except that he's gay. For obvious reasons, people would rather write about the main characters or more developed side characters, and that includes writing some of them as gay/bi/pan.

I have the impression the OP was not talking about slashing and fandom; they were talking about fans who insist fandom aspects are part of canon, and act like that's a matter of fact, as, for example, taking it up to actors at cons. And THEN accuse said actors of homophobia when they state "no, so-and-so character is straight".

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
well, there are guys like Dean who are gay so yeah... i'm still waiting

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
TV World =/= Reality

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
Then watch Modern Family. Or Oz. Or The Wire. Or True Blood. Or Arrested Development. You have Downton Abbey or The Good Wife too. There are lots of good shows with great queer characters.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
True Blood is shit, I stopped after the first season and LOL @ the rest of the shows. They are hardly my shows (though I've watched & loved Oz, but that's not the type of show I'm into.)

So basically... watch shows you've got interest in? and stop wishing representation in my shows.

I'm sorry, but you're actually using Downton Abbey as some sort of positive representation of homosexuality? The show were the queer character is the morally dubious one and never gets to have sex?

It's funny how, when people say this, often what they seem to mean is "I want gay guys who uphold traditional masculinity because that's still the epitome of sexiness to me."

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
BECAUSE THEY AREN'T IN MY SHOWS, FUCKING IDIOT
I'M GOING TO SUPPORT THEM WHEN THEY APPEAR IN THE STUFF I WATCH WHICH IS NEVER THUS FAR SO GEE, I WONDER WHY I'M WAITING FOR SOME FUCKING LITTLE BIT OF REPRESENTATION ON MY TV

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
Why don't you calm down and stop talking BS? I'm straight. All you, and anyone, have to go on is my observed behaviour, and the fact that I say I am. Same as for a fictional character, in fact - as you have no more, indeed probably less - idea of my life than of Dean's. But by you, unless someone can claim I'm not and be taken utterly seriously, that's homophobic.

Think about how stupid that is for moment. Then think about the fact that you just confirmed everyone's idea of the SPN shipstan.
