If you have them growing in the wild around you, I'm sure you can do it. But most Americans don't forage. I think it comes from being raised in a culture that says, "Yeah, you may think you are eating a safe berry but it's actually POISON! You don't know how to tell the difference by looks alone. So, stick with the farmers' markets and the grocery stores, buddy."

It depends. We had wild dew berries all over our property and lots of people in that area who had fenced in pastures d dew berries growing all up on them. Most of the wild stuff in the south is actually dew berries rather than blackberries but they're Lily similar.

I've eaten wild berries before. It's just that it's not common enough for people to actually have lots of blackberry bushes or whatever in their immediate surroundings - I've only really had them when I'm visiting relatives or friends who live in the country or the woods. If you're in a city or a suburb, it's less likely to be available.
