In the Texas we pick blackberries in the summer. We would likely call brambles "sticker bushes," "thorn bush," "stickers," or "briar." Or, the name of the particular bush, like "blackberry bush."

Thanks for the information! It's pretty cool how many names one plant can have./geekery

Texas is pretty bad about having a lot of names for the exact same thing.

Hmm. Is it? I've never really thought about it.

Well, it might be more accurate to say "We have a lot of vague terms we use for general things" than specifically names - or so I've been told by several people. -shrugs-

+1

In my family/area my family tends to be from "stickers" are used for thorns or those annoying seeds that stick to your clothes in general, while thorn bush tends to be a little more specific - but that might be local thing since I've only heard it used that way when I visit that side of my family.

Yeah. We would say the specific bush if we are talking about blackberries, but for other thorny things with less obvious names we would probably call stickers. We would call the thorny seeds that stuck to clothes burrs or stickers. There's a plant we call a "needle mouth" too that is actually a thistle of some sort, I think.

AYRT

Yeah, the area I'm from in Texas tends to specify the plant/use thorn bush or burr for seeds.
