Reeve Carney is unbelievably beautiful, in a cast that seems to have chosen exclusively based on their looks: they are all excellent actors, which is the only reason the over-the-top material doesn't sound ridiculous.

In fact I saw an interview where he has a completely average haircut and that's when I realized that the Dorian Gray haircut suits him very well. It does look affected, but that's very much in character, in my opinion. Both in the novel and the show.

Dorian Gray in Penny Dreadful seems to be posing for effect and used to the effect his beauty has on people around him. Just the first scene with Brona makes it pretty clear in spite of how jaded her life must have made her.

Those cheekbones probably help him carry off the Dorian haircut. I looked up other pics of him and I agree, I like that hairstyle a lot with his elegant angular features.
