Reading all the differences in when things ripen in various areas, now I'm wondering if some people are talking about blackberries (late summer/fall) and some people are talking about black raspberries (late spring). We've got both where I live, plus regular red raspberries, and while we do go out and pick them ... unless the weather has been properly rainy (ha), there aren't very many and you get covered in bug bites.
